A longtime firefighter with the Baltimore City Fire Department died Friday morning following a sudden medical emergency during a departmental training session. Emergency Vehicle Driver Charles Mudra, who had served with the department for 17 years, collapsed while participating in a skills assessment at the BCFD training academy. His passing was confirmed later that morning at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

According to the department, Mudra experienced a catastrophic medical episode between training sessions. On-site personnel responded immediately with advanced life support efforts. Despite rapid intervention and transportation to the hospital, Mudra was pronounced dead at 10:42 a.m.
Mudra was assigned to Truck Company 20 and had been a member of the Baltimore City Fire Department since 2008. His death marks a significant loss for the department, which has emphasized the demanding nature of fire service training and the risks involved even outside of active emergency response.
