Hiler is accused of violating the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act, which obligates individuals convicted of qualifying offenses to register and regularly update their information. His obligation stems from a previous conviction in Pennsylvania that legally required him to report his residency status to the relevant authorities. Federal prosecutors contend Hiler traveled between states and failed to fulfill that obligation.
The investigation was led by the U.S. Marshals Service and the case is being prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney David C. Williams. The indictment, announced by the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Middle District of Pennsylvania, was filed on May 14, 2025. Officials emphasize that an indictment is not a conviction, and Hiler is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
