A 41-year-old Mexican citizen has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for reentering the United States after deportation and failing to register as a sex offender. The sentencing, delivered by U.S. District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson in Harrisburg, also includes five years of supervised release following incarceration.

The individual, Cosme Marin-Ponce, had previously been removed from the country in 2019 after a conviction for indecent assault involving a child under 13 years old. Despite this, Marin-Ponce reentered the United States without receiving legal authorization and did not comply with the legal obligation to register as a sex offender.

Federal authorities discovered Marin-Ponce’s unauthorized presence in the U.S. and his failure to meet registration requirements. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Scalera and investigated by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Enforcement and Removal Operations and the U.S. Marshals Service.
