A new era in Baltimore’s criminal justice coordination began Wednesday with the official launch of a state-convened Criminal Justice Coordinating Council (CJCC), replacing the city’s previous locally-led version. The new council, convened in partnership between the City of Baltimore and the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy (GOCPP), brings together local, state, and judicial leaders to streamline processes and improve systemic outcomes.

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.
If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.
Will you be one of the 5%?

The transition to this newly restructured CJCC marks the end of the city’s own coordinating body, which had operated since 2021. Key working groups from the now-sunset local council will be absorbed into the new format. The goal is to strengthen interagency collaboration, reduce redundancies, and focus efforts on making the justice system more effective for Baltimore residents. The council will be jointly led by Baltimore Mayor Brandon Scott and members of the judiciary.
State officials emphasized the significance of uniting various elements of the criminal justice system under one coordinated framework. According to GOCPP Executive Director Dorothy Lennig, the CJCC is designed to foster process improvements by engaging a wide array of stakeholders across jurisdictions. The initiative is expected to facilitate more consistent and efficient policy implementation citywide.
