James Kareen Day, 43, of Landover, Maryland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang and will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Day pleaded guilty to carrying out three armed robberies and four attempted armed robberies. In several of these incidents, he used a short-barrel shotgun to threaten employees and demand cash and property.

Authorities say Day stole money and valuables from businesses and individuals during the robberies. The case was investigated by the FBI and local police departments in the three affected counties. Officials emphasized that the crimes were part of a broader pattern of violence addressed through the federal Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.
