A Prince George’s County man has been sentenced to 16 years in federal prison for a series of armed and attempted armed robberies targeting businesses in three Maryland counties. The incidents occurred between December 2022 and February 2023 and involved multiple businesses in Howard, Montgomery, and Prince George’s counties.

James Kareen Day, 43, of Landover, Maryland, was sentenced by U.S. District Judge Theodore D. Chuang and will also serve five years of supervised release following his prison term. Day pleaded guilty to carrying out three armed robberies and four attempted armed robberies. In several of these incidents, he used a short-barrel shotgun to threaten employees and demand cash and property.
Authorities say Day stole money and valuables from businesses and individuals during the robberies. The case was investigated by the FBI and local police departments in the three affected counties. Officials emphasized that the crimes were part of a broader pattern of violence addressed through the federal Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) initiative.

The PSN program coordinates law enforcement and community partners to reduce violent crime and gun violence nationwide. The U.S. Attorney’s Office highlighted the use of PSN’s strategic enforcement and community engagement principles in helping to bring Day to justice. The case was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorneys Dawn Williams and Timothy Hagan.
