The incident occurred on May 9 when a Chevrolet Captiva driven by a 75-year-old Mexican citizen was referred for secondary inspection by CBP officers at the Del Rio Port of Entry. Utilizing nonintrusive inspection technology and conducting a physical search, officers found 32 concealed packages hidden in the vehicle’s seats. These packages were determined to contain approximately 69.71 pounds of cocaine, with an estimated street value of $930,766.
CBP took custody of the narcotics while the Texas Department of Public Safety arrested the driver and launched a criminal investigation. Officials emphasized the seizure as part of ongoing efforts to secure the U.S.-Mexico border and protect surrounding communities.
