The initiative, carried out through various local partnerships and public events, included both planting and distribution efforts. Among the highlighted locations was Morgantown, where over 1,200 trees were planted at sites such as Camp Mountaineer, Snake Hill Wildlife Management Area, and the West Virginia Botanic Garden. Other activities included a giveaway of 200 saplings in Fairmont and pollinator garden installations at three city parks in partnership with local organizations. In Parkersburg, 164 trees were handed out through community events, while in Weirton, 300 trees were planted in collaboration with the city’s parks and recreation department.

Volunteers also planted over 100 trees at Bluestone State Park near Hinton. These projects support habitat development for pollinators and wildlife while contributing to the long-term sustainability of local ecosystems. The spring events were part of a broader effort by FirstEnergy Corp., Mon Power’s parent company, to reduce environmental impact across its six-state service territory, which has already seen approximately 16,000 trees planted this year.
