A federal jury has convicted a Gambrills man of multiple drug and firearm offenses, including the possession of a machinegun in furtherance of drug trafficking — a charge that alone carries a mandatory 30-year prison sentence. The verdict follows a five-day trial in which prosecutors outlined the defendant’s elaborate operation involving stolen vehicles, false identities, and stash houses used to distribute large quantities of marijuana across state lines.

Osman Malik Sesay, 32, was found guilty of seven federal charges, including being a felon in possession of firearms and ammunition, conspiracy and possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, maintaining drug premises, and two counts of possessing firearms in furtherance of drug trafficking. One of those firearms, a Glock 26 found in a stolen Range Rover, had a machinegun conversion device attached. Authorities also found Sesay in possession of over $14,000 in cash and a fraudulent Maryland driver’s license at the time of his April 2021 arrest.

Between late 2020 and mid-2021, Sesay operated a marijuana distribution network using fake identities to lease apartments and move drugs. Law enforcement surveillance and subsequent searches uncovered approximately 90 pounds of marijuana, over $40,000 in cash, and seven firearms, including two converted into machineguns. The investigation also linked Sesay to multiple stolen high-end vehicles used in the commission of these crimes.

Authorities arrested Sesay again in July 2021 after surveillance caught him conducting a drug transaction from a stolen Corvette in a Washington, D.C. school parking lot. Subsequent search warrants led to further seizures of drugs, cash, and firearms from two apartments in Lanham and Gambrills, Maryland. In addition to the firearms, police recovered more marijuana and stolen vehicles, including an Audi A7 and a Land Rover Range Rover Velar. At the time of these offenses, Sesay was a convicted felon, making his possession of firearms illegal.

Sesay’s sentencing is scheduled for July 29, 2025, before U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Maddox. He faces a mandatory minimum of 35 years in federal prison and could be sentenced to life. The case was prosecuted as part of Project Safe Neighborhoods, a Department of Justice initiative aimed at reducing violent crime through coordinated law enforcement efforts.
