BMW of North America is initiating a voluntary safety recall involving 26 units of its 2025 BMW X3 xDrive 30 SUV due to concerns over potential damage to the front brake discs. The issue, discovered during internal quality checks and further confirmed through a dealership inspection, centers on possible damage incurred during the supply chain transport process. This could compromise brake performance, especially during hard braking.

The issue was first detected on February 20, 2025, during a quality inspection at the vehicle assembly plant. Acoustic anomalies led investigators to the front brake area. Initially believed to be an isolated case, a similar incident was identified on March 24 at a dealership, prompting further analysis. Both affected vehicles were traced to brake discs from the same production batch supplied by ZF Foxconn Chassis Modules in South Carolina.
BMW engineers began an investigation on March 27, which included a review of the supplier’s production and transportation records. While no production deviations were identified, findings pointed to the possibility of transport-related damage. As a result, BMW determined that a recall was warranted and announced the decision on April 9, 2025.

All 26 potentially affected vehicles were produced on February 19, 2025. According to BMW, every vehicle within this group is assumed to have the defect. Although no customer complaints, warranty claims, injuries, or accidents have been reported, the manufacturer has opted to proactively replace the front brake discs and associated brake pads. Repairs will be carried out free of charge at authorized BMW dealerships. Dealer notifications began on April 16, while owner notifications are set for June 6, 2025.
