Mercedes-Benz USA has initiated two separate safety recalls impacting a combined total of over 6,600 vehicles due to potential defects involving software warning systems and improperly installed fuse boxes. These issues could impair critical vehicle functions, posing elevated crash and fire risks, although no incidents or injuries have been reported in the United States.

The first recall, identified as NHTSA Campaign No. 25V-254, affects 6,247 vehicles from the 2025 model year, including the G 550, G 580, and AMG G 63 SUVs. The issue stems from incorrect warning indicators in the instrument cluster linked to the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) control unit. Due to a software development error by supplier Bosch Engineering GmbH, certain system failures—such as those involving ESP, ABS, or energy recuperation—may not be accurately reflected to the driver, violating federal safety standards FMVSS 101 and 126. The misrepresentation increases the likelihood of undetected system deactivation, potentially leading to crashes.

Owners of affected vehicles will have the ESP software updated at authorized dealerships. Mercedes-Benz reports that vehicles produced from January 29, 2025, onward are not affected due to a change in the supplier’s production process. Notifications to dealers are scheduled for April 24, with customer notifications planned before June 17.

The second recall, under Campaign No. 25V-255, involves 409 vehicles from the 2023 and 2024 model years across a wide range of models, including the C-Class, EQE, EQS, S-Class, SL, and GLC lines. This recall traces back to repairs made under a prior campaign (24V-115), where some dealer technicians mistakenly installed incorrect fuse boxes. Such errors may result in improper fuse amperage or contact interruptions, potentially causing sudden loss of propulsion, malfunctioning restraint systems, and fire risks due to circuit failure. No U.S. warranty claims or injuries have been reported.

The faulty fuse boxes will be replaced with properly specified parts. Mercedes-Benz confirmed the issue was addressed by correcting its parts ordering system as of April 4, 2025. Dealers will be notified on April 24, with owner notifications expected by mid-June.
