Chrysler (FCA US, LLC) has announced a voluntary safety recall affecting 10,396 model year 2025 Ram 1500 pickup trucks due to a software issue that could lead to overinflated tires. The recall stems from an incorrectly programmed instrument panel cluster (IPC), which displays a misleading tire pressure recommendation that may exceed safe inflation limits for certain tire configurations.

The issue was identified in vehicles produced between October 3, 2023, and March 6, 2025. According to the safety recall report submitted to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the IPC in the affected trucks may show a default message to inflate tires to 50 psi. This guidance does not align with the correct tire pressure for all configurations, and following it could result in tires being inflated beyond their maximum safe capacity. This significantly raises the risk of a tire blowout, increasing the chance of a crash without warning.
The investigation began in January 2025, after FCA US’s Technical Safety and Regulatory Compliance team observed the discrepancy. Throughout the first quarter of the year, engineering and compliance teams reviewed production and service records. By late March, FCA US had identified 15 warranty claims, 23 field reports, and two additional service records potentially related to the issue, although no accidents or injuries were reported.

On April 3, 2025, FCA US’s Vehicle Regulations Committee approved the recall. Owners of affected vehicles will be notified beginning May 8, 2025. The remedy involves reprogramming the IPC with updated software to display the correct tire pressure recommendations. FCA US will reimburse owners for related costs as outlined in its general reimbursement plan submitted in October 2024.
