U.S. Customs and Border Protection reported a record low in illegal border crossings for March 2025, signaling what officials say is a turning point in border security efforts. According to operational data released Monday, daily apprehensions by U.S. Border Patrol averaged just 264, marking a 94% decline from the same period in 2024 and the lowest on record. The agency attributes the sharp drop to intensified enforcement and messaging around deportation for unlawful entry.

CBP apprehended 7,181 individuals attempting to cross the southwest border between ports of entry in March, down 14% from February’s total and a staggering 95% lower than the same month last year. The Office of Field Operations reported an average of 673 encounters per day nationwide, also showing a decline from previous months. CBP cited enhanced patrols and support from the Department of Defense as contributing factors to these reductions.
A new mobile application, CBP Home, launched March 10, offers a voluntary exit mechanism for individuals unlawfully present in the country. The app allows users to notify authorities of their departure plans and confirm their exit, aligning with Executive Order 14159, which aims to streamline the removal process for unauthorized individuals.
