According to police, the incident began around 11:05 p.m. when a trooper from the Maryland State Police Traffic Incident Management Division initiated a stop on a Jeep Wrangler. The driver of the Jeep fled the stop shortly after, prompting the trooper to deactivate emergency lights and return to traffic without pursuing the vehicle.
Approximately three minutes later, the trooper encountered the same Jeep, now fully engulfed in flames off the I-695 ramp leading to southbound I-83. Preliminary findings indicate the vehicle lost control while attempting to exit, struck an embankment, then a tree, and subsequently caught fire.
