According to the Boonsboro Water & Wastewater Department, the break in the water service line allowed dirt to enter the water system. While the issue was addressed quickly, water from the system may appear discolored. Officials warn that bacteria or other organisms may have entered the supply, making it unsafe for consumption without treatment.
Residents are instructed to boil all tap water for at least three minutes before using it for drinking, brushing teeth, making ice, or preparing food. The town also suggests using bottled water where possible. Any ice or stored water collected during the advisory period should be discarded.
