The MDTA, established in 1971 by the Maryland General Assembly, is funded through toll revenue and operates independently of state tax dollars. The Authority focuses on improving connectivity, enhancing safety, and promoting equity while supporting economic development in Maryland. Cordova’s addition to the Board is expected to play a vital role in advancing these goals. At the most recent MDTA Board meeting, Secretary Wiedefeld and MDTA Executive Director Bruce Gartner expressed their appreciation to outgoing Board Member W. Lee Gaines, Jr. for his service.
The MDTA Board consists of eight members appointed by the governor, with each serving a four-year term. Board members are limited to three consecutive terms.
