Ford Motor Company has announced a safety recall affecting over 11,000 of its 2025 F-Super Duty trucks due to a defect in the steering column shifter mechanism. The issue involves shifter mechanisms that could detach from the steering column, posing a risk of rollaway if the vehicle is not properly secured in park with the parking brake.

The recall, identified as NHTSA No. 25V-163 and Ford No. 25S20, applies to F250, F350, and F450 models built between December 14, 2024, and February 5, 2025. Affected vehicles may have misaligned welds on the shifter mechanism, stemming from process deviations at the supplier, Nexteer Corporation Mexico. Although only about 1 percent of the 11,745 recalled units are estimated to carry the defect, the potential safety hazard prompted Ford to take action after receiving two related warranty reports earlier this year.
The defect could prevent the driver from engaging park, leading to a situation where the vehicle might roll away if the parking brake is not manually applied. Warning signs include audible alerts and messages on the instrument cluster when the ignition is turned off or the driver’s door is opened without the vehicle being in park. Additionally, the vehicle may retain the ignition key and keep the cluster awake as further indicators of the issue.

Ford began investigating the matter in early February 2025 after warranty reports were submitted in late January and early February. The company reviewed process and structural data from the supplier and confirmed that the failure resulted from misaligned welds. Ford identified a limited number of potentially affected parts and confirmed no accidents or injuries have occurred due to the defect.
Owners will be contacted beginning April 24, 2025, and instructed to bring their vehicles to Ford or Lincoln dealers for inspection and, if necessary, replacement of the steering column at no cost. The recall also includes a reimbursement plan for customers who may have already paid for the repair.
