The fire began in Apartment D when combustible materials came into contact with a stove. The resident discovered the flames and attempted to extinguish them, but the fire quickly grew out of control. Unable to escape through the apartment, he exited onto the balcony, where neighbors urged him to jump. He eventually did and sustained burns covering 20-30% of his body. Emergency services transported him to Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center, where he is in stable condition. A firefighter also sustained minor injuries but declined hospitalization.
