Effective starting the next meeting, Washington County will no longer broadcast or live stream the citizens participation part of the county commissioner meetings. As part of this new policy, the county is also shifting the time for citizen participation to earlier in the day, to allow better participation.
Meetings will start at 8 am. Following Pledge of Allegiance, citizens will be able to speak for 3 minutes each until 8:30 am. This part of the meeting will not be broadcast or live streamed. Citizens must sign up at the door to speak. At 8:30 am the meeting will be recessed, until the start time of the regular business meeting.
This shift in policy is a result of last week’s meeting in which multiple members of the NAACP were unable to speak during citizens participation due to strict enforcement of time limits.
This is a developing story, and will be revised once we receive a copy of the new policy from Washington County Government.
