The Washington County Office of Emergency Management has enacted a countywide burn ban effective immediately due to increased wildfire danger. The decision, authorized by the Board of County Commissioners, comes in response to persistent dry conditions, high temperatures, and strong winds that heighten the risk of fires.

The burn ban applies to all forms of outdoor open burning, including campfires, open fire pits, debris and brush burning, agricultural burns, and any other open flame activities that could create a fire hazard. Residents are advised to explore alternative methods for disposing of yard debris, such as mulching or utilizing designated drop-off sites.

Washington County officials will continue to monitor weather and environmental conditions to determine when it is safe to lift the ban. Those found violating the burn ban may face fines and penalties.
