A fire at a detached garage on Dry Run Road in Clear Spring on February 23 resulted in an estimated $100,000 in damages. The fire, which originated near a utility task vehicle inside the garage, was discovered by the homeowner. Firefighters from the Clear Spring Volunteer Fire Company responded, bringing the fire under control within 30 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross is assisting the property owners.
Another fire occurred on February 21 at a single-story home on Gilroy Road in Nanjemoy. The homeowner was inside when the fire started in a bedroom, sustaining minor burns and smoke inhalation before being transported to MedStar Washington Hospital. The structure and its contents sustained approximately $280,000 in damages. The fire is not considered suspicious, but an investigation is ongoing.

A FedEx truck was found burning near train tracks at Red Toad Road and Bethel Church Road in North East on February 23. Investigators determined the fire was incendiary in nature, meaning it was intentionally set. The truck had been stolen from a FedEx facility before being abandoned and set ablaze. Firefighters from North East Volunteer Fire Company controlled the fire in 20 minutes. Authorities are asking anyone with information to contact investigators at 410-386-3050.
In Elkton, a fire on February 21 damaged a two-story dwelling and a fifth-wheel recreational vehicle at Carters Mill. One occupant, a 45-year-old man, suffered minor burns and was taken to a hospital. Both structures were declared total losses, with damages estimated at $10,000. The cause remains under investigation, and officials are requesting any relevant information from the public.
The final reported fire involved a 2019 Hyundai Elantra on I-70 in Frederick during the early hours of February 24. A passerby discovered the vehicle ablaze, and Frederick County Division of Fire & Rescue Services responded, controlling the fire in 10 minutes. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. Authorities encourage anyone with information to contact the State Fire Marshal’s Western Regional Office at (301) 766-3888.
