Daimler Trucks North America, LLC has issued a safety recall affecting certain Freightliner electric vehicles due to a defect that could lead to a sudden loss of power. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-046, involves approximately 810 units of the 2020-2025 Freightliner eCascadia and the 2022-2026 Freightliner eM2 models. The issue stems from a faulty Electric Vehicle Power Distribution Module (EVDM), where the connector plate assembly may detach from its housing, potentially disconnecting circuits.

The malfunction could cause a complete loss of motive power without warning, increasing the risk of accidents. In some cases, drivers may receive instrument cluster warnings or illuminated telltale lamps before the failure occurs. Daimler Trucks North America (DTNA) has identified that vehicles manufactured before mid-January 2025 are affected, as newer models incorporate an updated EVDM that resolves the issue.

DTNA is currently developing a remedy and will notify affected owners and dealers once a solution is finalized. Repairs will be carried out free of charge at authorized service centers. Customer notifications will be sent via first-class mail, with dealer notifications beginning on February 19, 2025, and owner notifications scheduled for March 31, 2025. The company has also indicated that reimbursement plans will be outlined in the notification letters for owners seeking compensation.
