Hino Motors Sales U.S.A., Inc. has issued a safety recall for approximately 19,026 Class 6 and 7 trucks due to a potential brake defect that could increase the risk of a crash. The recall, identified as NHTSA Recall No. 25V-057, affects specific 2022-2025 models of Hino NH7A, NJ7A, NJ7B, NJ7C, NV7A, NV7B, and NV7C vehicles equipped with full air brake systems. The issue stems from the routing design of the brake air tube for the right front brake, which may come into contact with the passenger-side fender, leading to potential wear over time.

If the brake air tube becomes compromised, an air leak could occur when the brake is applied, potentially reducing braking performance. In cases of hard braking, this issue may cause the vehicle to pull to the left, increasing the likelihood of an accident. Hino determined that variations in assembly allow the air tube to make contact with the fender, leading to gradual wear. Drivers may detect the issue during pre-trip inspections or notice an audible air leak when braking before significant performance degradation occurs.

To remedy the defect, Hino dealers will inspect and secure the air tube using an updated bracket and P-clip. If necessary, the air tube will be replaced at no cost to the customer. Hino has also stated that customers who previously paid for repairs related to this issue may apply for reimbursement. The corrective measures were implemented at Hino’s West Virginia assembly plant on January 3, 2025, and dealer notifications are set to begin on February 10, 2025. Owners will be notified no later than April 7, 2025.
