TTI Outdoor Power Equipment has issued a recall for approximately 217,500 RYOBI 40-Volt Brushless 21” Cordless Walk-Behind Mowers due to a fire hazard. An overheating issue linked to a push-on connector inside the powerhead has been identified, posing a significant safety risk. An additional 28,400 units sold in Canada are also affected by the recall.

The recall applies to specific models, including RY401014BTLUS, RY401014US, RY401140US, RY401140US-Y, RY401015BTLUS, RY401015US, RY401150US, RY401150US-Y, RY401020, and RY401200. The affected mowers, which have a black cutting deck, gray top housing, and a black grass collection bag featuring the “RYOBI” logo, were sold at Home Depot, Direct Tools Factory Outlet stores, and online between February 2021 and January 2025. These units were priced between $500 and $700.

TTI has received 97 reports of the mowers overheating while in use, including five cases where the malfunction resulted in fires. Two incidents led to minor burn injuries. Consumers who own these models are advised to stop using them immediately and contact TTI for instructions on disabling the product and obtaining a free replacement mower. The recalled mowers were manufactured in the United States by TTI Outdoor Power Equipment Inc., based in Anderson, South Carolina. Consumers are encouraged to check the serial numbers of their mowers, which can be found inside the green mower housing, to determine if their unit is part of the recall.
