The recall, announced on June 12, affects approximately 113,000 units sold in the United States and an additional 15,000 in Canada. The issue stems from a defect in which the blade can engage if either the safety or trigger control is pressed individually, rather than requiring both to be activated simultaneously. This flaw has led to at least 27 reported incidents, including 16 injuries ranging from minor to severe lacerations.
The recalled trimmers were sold between March 2021 and January 2025 at Home Depot stores, Direct Tools Factory Outlet locations, and online through both retailers, priced between $90 and $160. The specific models included in the recall are RY40620VNM, RY40602VNM, and RY40602BTLVNM. Serial numbers fall within the ranges LT21091D180001 to LT22365D060025 and RG23125N250001 to RG24252D101110. The model and serial numbers can be found on the data plate located on the underside of the trimmer.
