Subaru of America, Inc. has announced a recall affecting 20,366 units of its 2025 Subaru Forester SUV due to a potential safety defect in the vehicle’s wheels. The issue stems from an incorrectly specified lug seat surface on certain 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels, which could impact vehicle stability and increase the risk of a crash. The affected vehicles were produced between April 5, 2024, and October 15, 2024.

The issue was first identified on October 15, 2024, when Subaru detected a wheel attachment problem during the vehicle production process. An investigation traced the issue back to the supplier, Kosei Aluminum Co., Ltd., which had insufficient process controls to prevent the incorrect manufacturing of the wheel’s lug seat surface. Subaru confirmed that the defect did not meet the company’s internal safety standards, leading to a voluntary recall. No warranty claims or technical reports related to the issue have been reported.

As part of the remedy, Subaru dealers will inspect the wheels on all potentially affected vehicles and replace any that contain the defective lug seat surface. The company has stated that all replacement wheels were manufactured with the correct specifications. Subaru plans to notify dealers on January 24, 2025, with owner notification expected to occur by March 24, 2025. Affected owners will be eligible for free repairs and potential reimbursement for any related expenses incurred prior to the recall notice.
