In a policy shift titled “Identity Months Dead at DoD,“ the Pentagon stated that official resources, including government time and funding, will no longer be used for celebrations or events tied to cultural observances, including Black History Month, Women’s History Month, and Pride Month, among others. The directive, issued by the Secretary of Defense, emphasizes unity over division within the military and encourages installations to focus on honoring service members based on their character and service rather than their demographics. While service members and civilian employees are still permitted to participate in cultural events in an unofficial capacity during off-duty hours, the DoD aims to prioritize mission readiness and camaraderie.
