According to preliminary findings, the man entered the courthouse and, while standing near the entrance, pulled a handgun from his pocket and pointed it at his own head. A bailiff assigned to courthouse security responded by drawing his firearm and aiming at the man. During the encounter, both individuals discharged their weapons, and the man sustained injuries. He was transported to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.
Under Maryland law, bailiffs are classified as special police officers employed by the state. The IID typically releases the names of involved individuals and the discharging officer within two business days, though this timeline may be extended if necessary.

Government-owned surveillance footage captured the incident, and the IID plans to release it within 20 business days. However, in some cases, delays may occur due to ongoing witness interviews, technical issues related to protecting civilian identities, or to allow family members to review the footage before it becomes public. The investigation remains ongoing.
