Established in 1996, the PECASE honors early-career researchers from across federal agencies who demonstrate exceptional leadership and potential in advancing scientific knowledge. Dr. Ricks, who joined USAMRIID in 2015, has rapidly ascended through the ranks to become deputy division chief of the Diagnostic Systems Division. Her work spans diagnostic research, laboratory modernization, biosurveillance, and training initiatives in partnership with military and civilian laboratories globally.

In her role, Ricks spearheads training programs under the Global Emerging Infection Surveillance initiative, traveling to countries such as Kenya, Thailand, Malaysia, and Ghana. These efforts enhance local diagnostic capacities, strengthen global biosurveillance networks, and expedite research outcomes critical to protecting U.S. forces and partner nations.
