The decision to end the concert followed two years of discussions involving the MSO Board of Directors, the National Park Service (NPS), and local stakeholders. Originally held at Antietam National Battlefield, the event faced heightened security demands and increased costs from NPS regulations, which required more personnel and equipment. The MSO expressed gratitude to the community and partners who supported the Salute to Independence for nearly 40 years.
