The event highlighted the wing’s leadership transition from Col. Marty Timko, who led the unit for five years, to Sigler, previously the 167th Operations Group commander.

The ceremony featured the symbolic passing of the organizational guidon, underscoring the transfer of authority. Timko, who temporarily served overseas during his tenure, was recognized with the Legion of Merit for his leadership, which included overseeing domestic and international operations, coordinating COVID-19 response efforts, and spearheading the wing’s involvement in aeromedical and airlift missions. He reflected on his time with the unit, expressing gratitude for the opportunity to lead and his admiration for the wing’s personnel.
Sigler, a member of the West Virginia Air National Guard since 1992, takes command with extensive experience as both a pilot and leader. His career includes piloting various aircraft, including the C-130 and C-17, and serving in numerous leadership roles. Sigler outlined his vision for the wing, emphasizing efficient training, inspection readiness, and staffing in critical areas, notably the fire department. He concluded his address by expressing his honor in leading the unit.
