Measuring approximately six feet tall and four feet wide, the tunnel was equipped with advanced features such as lighting, a ventilation system, and reinforced wooden beams. Agents identified the structure after removing a metal plate covering a 36-by-36-inch entry hole leading into the public storm drain. Authorities believe the tunnel was designed and operated by transnational criminal organizations seeking to evade legal border crossings and security measures.
El Paso Sector Chief Patrol Agent Anthony Scott Good commended the diligence of agents in uncovering the tunnel and reaffirmed their commitment to investigating illicit activities along the border. He highlighted the importance of interagency cooperation, as multiple U.S. and Mexican law enforcement entities, including the FBI and the Mexican government, will work together to secure the area and dismantle the smuggling infrastructure.

The discovery comes as part of ongoing efforts to curb smuggling operations that exploit underground infrastructure and endanger lives. The FBI, in collaboration with other agencies, emphasized the importance of binational partnerships in disrupting criminal networks and safeguarding border communities. Authorities are now focused on further investigations to identify those responsible and remediate the tunnel to prevent future exploitation.
Area residents are encouraged to assist in these efforts by reporting any suspicious activity anonymously to U.S. Border Patrol through their hotline or WhatsApp contact.
