The incident occurred at 4099 Cortona Drive at approximately 12:22 p.m. Firefighters from the Prince Frederick Volunteer Fire Department responded, with 50 personnel working to control the blaze within an hour. Smoke alarms were present but activated only after the occupants had evacuated due to the location of the fire. The home did not have a fire alarm or sprinkler system.
The fire caused an estimated $550,000 in damages, including $400,000 to the structure and $150,000 to its contents. No injuries were reported, and the American Red Cross is assisting the two adults, two children, and three dogs displaced by the incident.

The fire’s origin and cause are under investigation, though it was discovered by one of the home’s occupants. This marks another reminder of the importance of fire safety measures in residential buildings, especially the presence of active fire alarms and sprinklers.
