Maryland State Police arrested a Montgomery County man in connection with a shooting that occurred early this morning in Frederick County. Authorities have charged the suspect with attempted murder and multiple firearm-related offenses after he allegedly fired into a vehicle during a pursuit on Route 340.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Gerome Alexander Quigley Jr. of Montgomery Village, faces two counts each of first- and second-degree attempted murder, among other charges, including the use of a prohibited high-capacity magazine. Police apprehended Quigley after finding his gray Volkswagen stuck in a snow-covered median, with signs of impairment observed at the scene. He is currently detained at the Frederick County Central Booking facility.

Shortly after 2:30 a.m., authorities received reports of a shooting on westbound Route 340 near Jefferson. The victims, who were driving a red GMC Yukon, told police they were being followed and shot at by the driver of the Volkswagen. Despite the vehicle sustaining significant damage from multiple gunshots, including a shattered driver’s window and bullet holes on the passenger side, the victims were not injured.

A preliminary investigation suggests the confrontation began at the Country Hills Apartments in Frederick and escalated into a pursuit. Evidence collected from the scene included shell casings found in the suspect’s vehicle and a loaded 9mm handgun recovered nearby. Police are continuing their investigation and have retained both vehicles involved for forensic analysis.
