We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

If just 5% of local area residents became paid supporters at only $5 per month, we could meet our fundraising goals and continue expanding our news coverage depth while continuing to provide free access for everyone. So, if you'd like to help us in our continuing quest to improve our coverage, please consider becoming a paying supporter.

Will you be one of the 5%?

Bridging Maryland Partnership was selected following a rigorous evaluation of technical proposals submitted in response to MDTA’s July 2024 request. The contract, set for a maximum term of five years, includes a 31.5% Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) participation goal. The partnership will act as MDTA’s engineering representative, ensuring that the design and construction processes progress efficiently while adhering to risk, cost, and environmental regulations. They will also oversee compliance with DBE requirements and manage the Progressive Design-Builder, Kiewit Infrastructure Co., which is tasked with completing the design and potentially negotiating the construction agreement.

Pre-construction activities will commence in January, involving both land and water operations. Crews will collect soil samples, map subsurface waterways, and perform other vital tasks to inform the bridge’s design and construction. These activities, involving equipment such as drills, barges, and cranes, are expected to have minimal noise and traffic disruptions, with negligible impact on navigation along the Patapsco River.

To maintain transparency and foster public engagement, MDTA has launched a Key Bridge Rebuild Facebook page. This platform, along with other resources such as KeyBridgeRebuild.com and a dedicated mailing list, aims to provide real-time updates, progress reports, and open communication opportunities for Marylanders invested in the future of the bridge.
