The tragic death of 13-year-old Levi Maciejewski from Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, has been officially classified as a homicide linked to online exploitation. Levi, the son of Shippensburg University football coach Mark Maciejewski, passed away in August 2024 after falling victim to a malicious online predator who coerced and blackmailed him.

Online exploitation, often referred to as “sextortion,” is a form of cybercrime where perpetrators manipulate victims into sharing explicit content. They then use threats, such as exposing the material, to demand money or additional content. In Levi’s case, the offender posed as a peer to gain his trust, leading to the exchange of sensitive information. When Levi could not meet the escalating demands, the situation tragically culminated in his death.

Cumberland County District Attorney Seán McCormack confirmed the coroner’s ruling of homicide, attributing it to the deliberate actions of the online offender. Levi’s family has chosen to share their story to raise awareness about the dangers of online interactions and to encourage parents and guardians to monitor their children’s digital activities.
