The fire caused an estimated $14,000 in damages, including $3,000 to the camper itself, $5,000 to its contents, and $6,000 in collateral damage. The owner, Daniel Lewis, sustained minor injuries while attempting to move a nearby vehicle to prevent further damage. He was treated on-site for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Oakland Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene with 20 firefighters and managed to control the blaze within 15 minutes. Investigators noted the absence of smoke alarms, fire alarms, or sprinkler systems in the camper, which contributed to the speed of the fire’s spread.
