A kitchen fire in a Hagerstown residence on Garis Shop Road resulted in two people being hospitalized for smoke inhalation. The fire, which started on the stove, caused approximately $10,000 in damages to the structure and contents of the two-story single-family home.

Emergency services responded to the incident at 3:38 p.m. on December 20, 2024. Ten firefighters from the primary responding fire department arrived on the scene and quickly brought the fire under control within one minute. The homeowner discovered the blaze, which was determined to have originated from a grease fire on the stove. Smoke alarms and sprinkler systems were not present in the home.

Two residents were taken to Meritus Medical Center as a precaution for smoke inhalation-related injuries. They were later discharged, and family members are assisting with their care.
