According to initial findings, Charles County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a 911 call around 3 p.m. on December 20 regarding a reported kidnapping and sexual assault in progress at a residence on Tottenham Drive. Upon arrival, deputies reportedly saw a masked man inside the home. A confrontation later unfolded in the property’s garage, where deputies discharged their weapons, striking the individual. The man was transported to a local hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after.

Authorities have not disclosed the identities of the man or the deputies involved. The IID typically releases such information within two business days, though that timeline can be extended as needed.

Some of the deputies involved were equipped with body-worn cameras, which captured footage of the incident. Per protocol, the IID plans to release the footage within 20 business days unless additional time is required to address investigative needs or shield witness identities. The circumstances leading to the shooting remain under investigation.
