HANCOCK, MD News (12/17/2024) – A structure fire broke out on December 16, 2024, at a single-story, single-family residence located at 126 Fairview Road in Hancock, Maryland. The fire, which started inside a bedroom, was discovered at approximately 5:03 p.m. by a neighbor.

The Hancock Volunteer Fire Company responded to the scene with a team of 35 firefighters. It took roughly 20 minutes to bring the fire under control. There were no reported injuries or fatalities.

The fire caused an estimated $50,000 in damage to the structure and an additional $10,000 to its contents. Officials confirmed that no smoke alarms were present in the home.

The property is owned and occupied by Jason Thompson, who is currently receiving assistance from family members. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Authorities encourage anyone with information related to the incident to contact the Western Region Office of the State Fire Marshal at 301-766-3888. Tipsters may remain anonymous.

The State Fire Marshal’s Office continues to investigate incidents to ensure fire safety and protect residents through education, inspection, and enforcement.
