According to the teller, a male suspect, later identified as William Roy Manchester III, aged 39, slid a handwritten note across the counter. The note indicated that Manchester was armed and demanded money. The note also included a threat to shoot the employee if they did not comply.
The bank employee was able to discreetly notify the police, prompting a swift response from law enforcement. Hagerstown Police officers arrived at the scene and took Manchester into custody while he was still inside the bank. A search revealed that Manchester was not actually in possession of a weapon, despite his threats to the contrary.
