LaVale, MD News (10/7/2024) – The Maryland State Fire Marshal is currently investigating two separate fire incidents that occurred in LaVale on October 5, 2024. Both incidents required responses from the LaVale Volunteer Fire Department and have resulted in property damage, though no injuries or deaths have been reported.

Vehicle Fire at Sheetz Gas Station
The first incident took place at approximately 5:16 p.m. at the Sheetz gas station located at 11601 Winchester Road. A 2013 Ford F150, owned by Tyler Griffin, caught fire while parked near the gas pumps. The fire is believed to have originated in the engine compartment, although the exact cause is still under investigation.
Thirty firefighters responded to the scene, bringing the blaze under control within 10 minutes. The estimated damage to the vehicle is $30,000, while the nearby gas island sustained an estimated $100,000 in damages. Fortunately, there were no injuries or fatalities as a result of the fire.

Trash Container Fire in Baseball Dugout
Earlier that day, at 6:55 a.m., firefighters responded to a trash container fire in a baseball dugout at 1111 Braddock Road. The dugout, owned by the Lion’s Club, sustained approximately $2,000 in damages. A passerby discovered the fire, which was quickly brought under control within five minutes by 12 firefighters.
According to initial findings, the fire was incendiary in nature, having started inside a trash container located in the dugout. The Fire Marshal is seeking information from the public and encourages anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact the Western Regional Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal at 301-766-3888.
