Ososanya, employed as a direct support professional at an Arc of Washington County residential program, provided care for a 30-year-old intellectually disabled man with autism. The incident in question occurred on January 23, 2023, when Ososanya and a co-worker accompanied the victim to an urgent care facility after the victim fell ill.

According to court testimony, while in the lobby of the urgent care facility, Ososanya attempted to place a face mask on the victim, who resisted and became aggressive. A co-worker of Ososanya witnessed him respond by delivering a “karate chop” to the victim’s neck. Once inside the examination room, the co-worker observed Ososanya physically assault the victim further, grabbing, elbowing, and punching him in the side before delivering a knee to his rib cage as the victim lay on an exam table. The co-worker intervened to stop the assault.

Attorney General Brown emphasized the duty of care providers to ensure the safety of vulnerable individuals. “Care providers serving our most vulnerable Maryland residents have both a legal and moral duty to ensure their safety and well-being,” Brown said. “My office is committed to holding accountable any care provider who neglects this responsibility or, even worse, abuses those in their care.”

Ososanya faces a maximum sentence of 15 years’ imprisonment. His sentencing will be determined after the completion of a pre-sentence investigation.

Attorney General Brown also acknowledged the efforts of Assistant Attorneys General Callie L. Smith and Carolyne Evans, as well as Investigators Michael Glenn and Dreama Smith, for their work in securing the conviction.

This case was prosecuted by the Maryland Office of the Attorney General’s Medicaid Fraud and Vulnerable Victims Unit. The unit is primarily funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, which covers 75 percent of its budget for the 2024 fiscal year, amounting to $6,057,128. The remaining 25 percent, totaling $2,019,042, is funded by the State of Maryland.
