HAGERSTOWN, MD News (6/12/2024) – The Washington County NAACP is set to host its third Black Market event, aiming to empower and uplift local black-owned small businesses. The event will take place on June 22 from 11 AM to 3 PM at the Church Street Parking Lot, located at 25 W Church St, Hagerstown, MD.

The Black Market initiative, led by the NAACP’s Business & Economic Development Chair, Kalim Johnson, is designed to provide black-owned businesses with a low-cost space to showcase their products and services. This initiative aligns with the branch’s motto, “lifting as we climb,” emphasizing collaboration, support, and celebration of community achievements.

Key Objectives of the Black Market

  1. Empowering Black-Owned Businesses: By promoting economic equity, the Black Market supports the growth and sustainability of black-owned enterprises within the community.
  2. Community Building: The market fosters a sense of community among black business owners, encouraging collaboration and networking opportunities. It also allows community members to support local businesses directly.
  3. Accessibility and Affordability: Offering a low-cost platform ensures that small businesses, especially those with limited resources, can participate and gain exposure.

Event Details and Participation

This upcoming market will be the first outdoor event hosted by the Washington County NAACP, with expectations to feature 20-25 vendors, including 2-5 food vendors. Two previous market events have been successful, reflecting the community’s support and the value provided to participating businesses.

Connect and Support Year-Round

Attendees of the Black Market event will have the unique opportunity to connect with a variety of local black-owned businesses. This engagement not only supports entrepreneurs during the festival but also encourages ongoing patronage throughout the year. By building these relationships, shoppers can contribute to the sustained success and growth of these businesses within the community. Don’t miss this chance to discover and support local talent, creating a lasting impact on the economic landscape of Hagerstown, Washington County, and beyond.
