At 12:45 p.m. today, the Maryland State Police Homicide Unit was contacted by the Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services Internal Investigative Unit (DPSCS IIU). The notification followed an autopsy by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, which revealed foul play and ruled Stanford’s death a homicide.

A suspect, also an inmate, has been identified. However, this individual has not been charged and will remain unnamed until charges are formally placed.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 p.m. yesterday. Following the autopsy results, Maryland State Police Homicide Unit investigators, State Police crime scene technicians, and DPSCS IIU investigators are working together to collect evidence and investigate the circumstances surrounding Stanford’s death.
