We need your help to stay paywall free

We know you value local news and entertainment that is free, open, and independent. Producing high-quality, paywall-free content isn't free. It takes time, effort, and resources to keep you informed and entertained. Unlike corporate media, we don’t have deep-pocketed investors or big advertisers funding our work—we rely on you, our readers and listeners, to keep Radio Free Hub City running. We're literally running on a shoe-string budget, but keep working hard to provide as much news and entertainment as we can.

The Career Exploration Days, held on May 29 and 30, provided WCPS 7th graders with a unique opportunity to engage directly with local business leaders. The event, hosted at HCC, aimed to broaden students’ understanding of the diverse career options in Washington County and guide them on the academic paths required to pursue these vocations. Over the two-day event, thirty-six presenters shared their insights and experiences with groups of students, offering a comprehensive overview of the local job market.

Dr. David Sovine, Superintendent of Schools, emphasized the value of these partnerships in enhancing students’ educational experiences. “WCPS students benefit from both strong academic offerings as well as an extensive career and technical education program,” Dr. Sovine remarked. “Thanks to numerous business partnerships and apprenticeships, students are able to have hands-on experiences and learn the soft skills needed to gain employment with local businesses and contribute to the area’s economy. We appreciate our partnerships with the Chamber, GHC, and HCC that helped make the Career Exploration Days a success.”

Throughout the event, students engaged in various activities, including interacting with presenters from different industries, asking questions, and exploring potential career interests. These interactions not only provided students with valuable insights into potential future careers but also highlighted the importance of relevant academic preparation and technical training.
