Presidential Primaries
As anticipated, President Joe Biden secured the Democratic nomination, while former President Donald Trump clinched the Republican nomination. Both candidates will now prepare to face off in the general election this November, continuing a political rivalry that has captivated the nation.

Senate Race
In the race for U.S. Senate, Democrat Angela Alsobrooks emerged victorious over David J. Trone, winning by a margin of over 50,000 votes. Alsobrooks, currently the Prince George’s County Executive, will contend with former Governor Larry Hogan, who won the Republican primary. Trone, a wealthy businessman and current U.S. Representative, invested over $60 million of his own funds into his campaign, making his loss particularly significant in a contest that drew considerable attention and financial expenditure.

Congressional District 6
In Maryland’s 6th Congressional District, Democrat April McClain Delaney received 13,544 votes and won her primary against Joe Vogel by approximately 4,000 votes. Hagerstown Mayor and Democrat candidate Tekesha Martinez received 2,594 votes. Delaney, spouse of former Congressman John Delaney, will face Republican Neil Parrott in the general election. Parrott, a former Maryland state delegate, secured his party’s nomination by defeating Dan Cox with a 7,000-vote margin.
Washington County Board of Education
The primary for the Washington County Board of Education saw a competitive field of candidates, with Victoria Beachley, Pieter Bickford, Charles A. Burkett, Ashley McCusker, Stan Stouffer, Melissa Williams, and April Ann Zentmeyer advancing to the general election. Notably, Ethan Loewen and Nancy Lee Evans did not make it past the primaries. A final slot will be determined between Michael P. Keifer and Robin Merchant Spickler. Spickler currently leads Keifer by 500 votes, though this count could shift as remaining mail-in and provisional ballots are processed.
City of Hagerstown Mayoral Race
In the City of Hagerstown mayoral race, Bill McIntire and Stephen S. Schutte will move on to the general election. McIntire garnered roughly 1,000 more votes than Schutte in the primary.
Hagerstown City Council
The Hagerstown City Council race featured a crowded field of candidates, with incumbent Kristin B. Aleshire leading the pack. He will advance to the general election along with Caroline Anderson, Erika T. Bell, Mark Bell, Tiara R. Burnett, Sean Flaherty, Stacy L. Michael, Rich Owens, Peter E. Perini, Sr., and Matthew J. Schindler. Journie Martinez, daughter of the current mayor Tekesha Martinez, did not advance beyond the primaries.
While these are preliminary unofficial results, the official results will by validated on May 24th.
