The county-owned parks encompass a diverse range of outdoor spaces, including Camp Harding Park, Chestnut Grove Park, Clear Spring Park, Devil’s Backbone Park, Doub’s Wood Park, and many others. These parks offer opportunities for individuals, families, and community groups to engage in outdoor recreation, from picnicking and hiking to sports and nature exploration.

Operating hours for the parks are from 9:00 a.m. until sunset, providing ample time for patrons to enjoy the facilities and amenities offered. However, visitors are reminded to adhere to the established rules and guidelines set forth by the Washington County Recreation Department to maintain a safe and orderly environment.

One of the key focuses of the department is to promote responsible park usage, which includes proper disposal of trash in designated receptacles, adherence to parking regulations, and the prohibition of alcohol, tobacco products, and controlled substances within park premises. Additionally, vendors wishing to operate within the parks must obtain the necessary permits from the Health Department and receive written consent from the Parks Department.

For those looking to host events or gatherings, pavilions within the county parks are available for rental. Reservations can be made in advance, with fees varying for in-county and out-of-county residents. Similarly, ball fields are also available for rent for sporting events and parties, providing additional recreational opportunities for the community.

The Marty Snook Pool, a popular attraction within Marty Snook Park, will also be open for reservations for swimming pool socials. However, patrons are reminded of pool regulations, including the supervision of children under 15 years of age and the prohibition of alcoholic beverages, tobacco products, vaping, and controlled substances on County property.

In an effort to cater to pet owners, Washington County has introduced a new pet-friendly program, which includes the establishment of designated fenced-in play areas for both large and small dogs within select parks. Dog waste stations provided by PetSmart have been installed in these areas, emphasizing responsible pet ownership and environmental stewardship.

To ensure the safety and enjoyment of all park visitors, pet owners are reminded of the rules and regulations governing pet usage within park premises. This includes keeping pets on a leash, cleaning up after them, and ensuring they are fully immunized, de-wormed, and licensed.
