The series of crimes, which occurred between May 15 and June 6, 2022, involved Guardado-Eagle and a co-conspirator targeting victims at gunpoint. According to Guardado-Eagle’s guilty plea, they successfully carjacked four victims during this period and attempted a fifth carjacking on June 6. In each instance, Guardado-Eagle and the co-conspirator wore masks to conceal their identities.
The incidents took place in various locations, including District Heights, Maryland, Severn, Maryland, Silver Spring, Maryland, and Tysons Corner, Virginia. On May 15, 2022, Guardado-Eagle and his accomplice rear-ended a 2014 BMW in District Heights, Maryland. Upon the victim inspecting the damage, they were confronted at gunpoint, forced to relinquish their keys, and directed to flee. Guardado-Eagle and the co-conspirator then fled the scene, with one driving the stolen BMW and the other using the vehicle involved in the collision.
The subsequent carjackings followed a similar pattern, with the perpetrators exhibiting violence and intimidation to execute their crimes. However, their attempt on June 6, 2022, in a parking garage in Baltimore was thwarted when the victim refused to surrender their keys and attempted to flee. Guardado-Eagle and his co-conspirator assaulted the victim but ultimately fled without the vehicle.
The law enforcement investigation into these incidents led to Guardado-Eagle’s arrest later in June 2022. The collaborative efforts of multiple agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), the Montgomery County Police Department, the Prince George’s County Police Department, the Anne Arundel County Police Department, the Fairfax County, Virginia Police Department, and the state’s attorney’s offices, were instrumental in apprehending Guardado-Eagle and bringing him to justice.
This case falls under Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN), a nationwide program aimed at reducing violent crime and enhancing community safety. Launched on May 26, 2021, PSN emphasizes cooperation between law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve.
United States Attorney Erek L. Barron commended the collaborative efforts of all agencies involved in the investigation and prosecution of Guardado-Eagle. Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Nicholas F. Potter handled the prosecution of the case.
