HAGERSTOWN, MD News (3/5/2024) – Hagerstown’s beloved 28 South restaurant, located on 28 South Potomac Street, announced its permanent closure in a recent social media post. The closure decision stems from the decision to put the Schindel-Rohrer Building, where the restaurant is housed, up for sale.

Bowman Development, the company behind the restoration of the building, has made significant investments in revitalizing the downtown area. With the property now on the market, the decision to close 28 South aims to expedite the sale process.

Despite the closure, Bowman Development remains committed to downtown Hagerstown, with ongoing projects and plans for luxury apartments. The company reassures customers that alternative dining options are available in the area.

Known for its locally sourced ingredients and comfortable ambiance, 28 South offered a diverse menu and a wide selection of craft beverages. The restaurant’s location in the historic Schindel-Rohrer Building added to its charm, featuring original architectural elements from the late 19th century.

Customers holding gift cards for 28 South can utilize them at Bulls & Bears, the restaurant’s sister establishment. While the closure may disappoint patrons, Bowman Development looks ahead to its future endeavors in downtown Hagerstown.
