HAGERSTOWN, MD News (2/12/2024) – Washington County Public Schools (WCPS) has announced the finalists for the 2024 Educational Support Personnel (ESP) of the Year Award, recognizing individuals who have demonstrated exceptional dedication and contribution to the educational community. Nominated by colleagues, parents, students, and community members, these finalists represent various facets of school operations, including administrative support, student assistance, transportation, food and nutrition services, and maintenance and operations.


Among the distinguished finalists are Shannon Gronholm, Senior Manager of Food and Nutrition Services at the Center for Education Services, with a commendable 12-year tenure ensuring students receive nutritious meals. Norma Kelley, a dedicated bus driver serving students from multiple schools for 11 years, exemplifies excellence in transportation support.

Amy Moats, an Administrative Assistant III at Springfield Middle School, has made a positive impact on students for 12 years, demonstrating versatility by previously serving as a Special Education Paraprofessional and School Secretary II at other schools within WCPS. Krista Stotler, Head Custodian at Clear Spring Elementary, boasts a remarkable 19-year career with WCPS, having initially volunteered and substituted for 13 years before becoming a full-time employee.

Samantha Strasser, a Special Education Connections Paraprofessional at Marshall Street School, rounds out the finalists, having dedicated 10 years to supporting students within the Job Development Program.

The Fifth Annual ESP of the Year Award Ceremony, scheduled for March 13, 2024, will honor these outstanding individuals for their significant contributions. The event, will be held at Cortland Mansion in Hagerstown, MD, and will celebrate the invaluable impact of WCPS Educational Support Personnel on students and the community at large.
